SAS4SD
Promotes action-based learning approaches in secondary schools in Ghana.
Focuses on environmental sustainability using examples that link the schools to local communities.
Science action relates to climate change, natural hazards, deforestation, and sustainable agriculture are addressed.
Stakeholder engagement
Workshops were held with stakeholders, including community leaders, farmers, students, and secondary school teachers participate to identify local needs and further disseminate the knowledge that has been developed. through the project. interactive engagement, enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of scientific theory, data and applications, and at the same time link theory to practice to raise awareness about sustainable development goals and ways to achieve these goals.
TAHMO WEATHER STATIONS
The project is heavily based on the collection of climatic data from TAHMO stations that are installed in secondary schools throughout Africa. The data is used to teach about climate change, weather patterns, data analysis, and science action linked to local environmental challenges.
SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHING
Teaching material that relies on data collected at TAHMO weather stations to teach about climate change and climate smart cocoa production. This material is complemented by TAHMO School2School material and the Blue Schools Kit that was developed by the Swiss Water and Sanitation Consortium.
GREEN CLUBS in secondary schools
A green club has been established at St. Monika’s Senior High School in Mampong, Ghana. Club activities have included a field excursion to a cocoa planting station, waste management of plastics through recycling, and learning about the impact of climate change on cocoa production.
